Dan was born in Germany. His first guitar he got at the age of 11 and when he was 15 he played and sang in the band of his school. After attending Potsdam University he seized Anglistics and Slavic studies to become a teacher for English and Russian languages. In the early seventies he started writing his first own songs and in the year 1981 he became a professional musician. After leaving the GDR during a tour over Western Germany in 1985 he settled down in West Berlin. As the frontman of the Hardrock Band “KARO” he went on tour over Europe together with MEAT LOAF. After moving to Munich the Record deal at Marlboro Music brought him to Vancouver / Canada, where he worked together with the musicians of the legendary Group LOVERBOY and MANNY CHARLTON, guitarist and Producer of NAZARETH. The album “CANADA” was released in 1992. One year later he won the European Song Contest in Istanbul / Turkey with his song “Canadian Dream”. Afterwards Dan went over to Los Angeles / California, where he stayed a couple of months. He met the best musicians of America there to play on his album “2000!”. Even the well known Songwriter DESMOND CHILD, who is responsible for songs for bands like Bon Jovi and Aerosmith and many more, took the time to write a song together with Dan (Close your eyes and say goodbye).

In 1996 McDonald´s chose Dan´s song “Heart of America” for their publicity campaign on the occasion of the Olympic Games at Atlanta. The song became a big hit and is still on the playlist of many radio stations. Another album “NEWS” and a “Best of DAN LUCAS” – album where released afterwards.

In 2018/19 he won the first season of The Voice Senior. In November 2019 the Single "Don´t Stop Believin´"  - a cover version of the song from the band Journey - was released bei Universal Records Germany.
